Simone Biles
Simone Arianne Biles (/sI'moUn 'baI@lzborn on March 14, 1997)[4] is an American artistic gymnast. Biles has won seven Olympic medals are tied with Shannon Miller for the most Olympic medals for an American gymnast, and is equal to ninth overall. With 25 World Championship medals won, she is the most decorated gymnast in the time of the Gymnastics World Championships. Many believe she to be the greatest gymnast of all time. [5] In 2022, Biles was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by Joe Biden. Biles received gold medals at the Rio de Janeiro 2016 Summer Olympics. She also won bronze in the balance beam as well as floor, all-around, and vault. Biles was part of the United States team known as the "Final Five". However, Biles pulled out of most of the contest because of difficulties with "the twisties", which is an intermittent loss of balance awareness in the air. Biles took home an Olympic silver medal for the US team and the bronze medal on the balance beam. She was praised for her partial withdrawal, perseverance and focus on safety, mental, and physical health. She's also an all-around champion five times over, World all-around champion (2013-2015 and 2018-2019) as well as a five-time World floor exercise champion (2013-2015 2018, 2018-2019), three-time World balance beam champion (2014-2015, 2019), two-time World vault champion (2018-2019) and a seven-time United States national all-around champion (2013-2016, 2018-2019, 2021) and was a part of the gold-medal winning American teams in the 2014, 2015 2018 and 2019 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships. She has also been a three-time World silver medalist (2013 and 2014 on vault, 2018 on uneven bars) and three-time World bronze medalist (2015 on vault 2013, 2013 and in 2018 on balance beam, 2013 and 2018 on vault).
Biles is the gymnast who earned the most World gold medals (19) and World medals (25) in the world. She has also surpassed the record set by Vitaly Scherbo of 23 World medals. Biles won her 24th- and 25th place and both gold at Stuttgart's competition in 2019. She holds the record for the most all-around World titles (5). She's the sixth person to earn an individual all-around title at the Olympics and World Championships. Biles is the tenth American female gymnast, and the first American female gymnast to be awarded the World medal for every event and was also the first female gymnast, since Daniela Silivas (1988), to be awarded an Olympic medal in every Olympic Games or World Championships. Biles was born March 14 1997 in Columbus, Ohio. She is the fourth of her siblings. Shanon Biles, her birth mother, didn't have the time for Simone and her other children, Adria, Ashley, or Tevin. All four went between foster and adoption care. In the year 2000, Biles' maternal grandfather, Ron Biles, and his second wife, Nellie Cayetano Biles began temporarily caring for Shanon's children in the northern Houston suburb of Spring, Texas, after discovering that his grandchildren had been in foster care. They adopted Simone and Adria Biles, her younger sister, in 2003. Ron's sister, Shanon's aunt Harriet, adopted the two children. Biles is a Belizean citizen. Belizean citizenship through her adoptive mother and speaks of Belize as her second home. Biles as well as her family members are Catholic.
